TechWorkers names industry veteran Mark Nelson, President and Chief Operating Officer

SAN RAMON, Calif., March 8, 2010 – TechWorkers, one of Northern California’s fastest growing providers of flexible technical staffing and human capital services, announced today the selection of Mark Nelson as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective immediately.   Nelson, who brings twenty two years of staffing industry experience, will be responsible for strategic oversight of the company’s day-to-day operations, including the sales, service delivery and account management.   A rapidly growing company, TechWorkers grew by more than 20 percent in 2009.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to join the TechWorkers team,” remarked Nelson.   “CEO Don Peed, who I hold in the highest regard, is a long time friend and business colleague.  He has assembled a team built on integrity, uncompromising values, professionalism and high quality service delivery.    Coupled with the incredible market opportunity in the contingent workforce and managed services space, joining the TechWorkers team provides the perfect fit for my family and me.”

Nelson’s career in staffing began with the founding of Nelson and Associates in 1988, a specialty staffing firm focused on accounting and finance placements.   Rising through the ranks to President and COO, the privately-held business grew to become the Nelson Family of Companies (NFC), a $400 million workforce management and talent acquisition company based in Northern California.   In 2008, he transitioned to the NFC Board of Directors and launched The Mark Nelson Group, a business advisory and consulting firm.

“Having Mark join the company is testimonial to the rapid growth TechWorkers has experienced in the last few years,” said CEO Don Peed.  “His business building experience in the Northern California marketplace will drive our company to the next level.   Mark is the perfect fit for our culture and I am confident his leadership skills will help us navigate through these exciting times.”

Nelson received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of San Francisco in 1985 and began his career in the San Francisco office of Price Waterhouse.   He is a certified public accountant (CPA) and has completed certified course work in the area of “Strategic Uses of Information Technology” from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.  Nelson serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Sonoma Mountain Business Cluster, sits on the Sir Francis Drake High School Scholarship Foundation Board, the Sonoma State University Executive Council, and is a former Board Member for the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce , USF Accounting Alumni Association, Bread and Roses (Board Chair), and many more.

A frequent speaker at regional and statewide events, Nelson has presented on staffing and human capital service topics to the Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA), HR Technology Forum, North Bay Business Journal – Best Places to Work, Marin Economic Forum, Marin HR Forum, PASCO, Chambers of Commerce, and the WorkforceLogic Users Conference.   His business commentary and thought leadership articles are published regularly in the business media.
